round1The OA Lodge, Allemakewink #54, was formed and chartered on July 19, 1930. Along with nine other lodges, we brought the national lodge total to fifty-five. The start of our lodge is credited to Chris H. Piper, who was the Scout Executive of the Morris County Council. The first induction took place at Camp Ames in Hibernia, New Jersey.

The Lodge struggled through its first years and then Dan D. Riley, Morris-Sussex Council Executive, in 1939, with the help of Miquin Lodge inducted nineteen members at a ceremonys1 conducted at Camp Ames. Although World War II came soon after the revival of #54, the lodge's growth continued throughout the 1940's. A number of the lodge members served their country in the War, and a few gave their lives.

The Scout Camp of our lodge was moved from Hibernia to Stokes Forest and then to its present site in Byram Township, Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation. Joseph Quick, our first Vigil Honor member was a strong force in promoting the Order of the Arrow at the camp.

Growth continued in the 1950's, especially under the leadership of two-term Chief Peter Headley. Headley set the pace for strong Lodge boy leadership, with goals of growth and involvement. During the late 1950's and early 1960's, the lodge membership
ranged in the area of 800-1000 members.

In 1967, the start of the Lodge Memorial Building began under the leadership of Chief Robert Davis. The 1970's and 1980's saw a smaller but very active lodge. The s4E. Urner Memorial Lodge Building was completed during this time due to active fund raising by arrowmen. In the 1980's our Lodge celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary, and continued to provide Morris-Sussex Area Council with its support and Service. In 1986, our Lodge hosted the NE-4A Section Conclave which was a big success. Our lodge had the good fortune of being represented in the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) that are held around the country at college campuses every two years. Two of our brothers played for the National Championships in Basketball and seven others worked on Staff at the 1988 NOAC.

In the 1990's the Lodge rededicated itself to serve the Scouts of Morris-Sussex Area Council. 1990 was a special year for Lodge #54 and the Order of the Arrow. It was our 60th year and the Order's 75th. 1990 marked the first year Allemakewink received the E. Urner Camping Award. The award is only given to two lodges, per region, per year. At the 1992 NOAC, Hugh Woodside, a past Lodge and Section Chief, served as Conference Vice-Chief of the Inductions and Ceremonial Events Committee. In 1994, we hosted the Section NE-3B Conclave at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation. After only joining the Section in 1993, it was a challenge to put the conclave together on short notice, but the conclave was a huge success. In 1995 we celebrated our 65th Anniversary by qualifying for the E. Urner Goodman Camping Award, again. Also in 1995, under the Chiefs Adam Corbisiero and Ken Jenkins, the Lodge began the process of funding and constructing a new, multi-purpose pavilion at camp, for the Year of Service project. The lodge completed the "Eagles Nest" Pavilion the next year. It was also around this time that our Lodge wasr13 moved over to Section NE-2B.

1998 marked another outstanding year of service for the Lodge, and wasculminated by the biggest contingent ever going out to NOAC. Ken Jenkins, a past Lodge and Section Chief, was a ConferenceVice Chief; joined by several other members of our lodge brothers on staff. Our lodge prepares itself for such upcoming ventures as the 2000 NOAC and hosting the NE-2B Section Conclave in 2000. In December, Ken Jenkins was elected 1999 Northeast Region Chief by his fellow NER Section Chiefs. Allemakewink Lodge has had a successful 70 years and is proud of all its service and acheivments.

Allemakewink is proud of its past and is hopeful for its future. On December 31, 2000 was the last day for Allemakewink lodge #54 we merged with Miquin lodge #68 to form Woapalanne lodge #43.
