Miquin Lodge #68 was formed in 1980 as a result of the merger of the original Miquin Lodge #68 and Witauchsundin Lodge #431.
The original Miquin Lodge #68 was founded on July 24, 1933 as the Watchung Lodge. Our totem was the Eagle Feather and our colors included black, yellow, blue, and gray (silver).
Witauchsundin Lodge #431, of the former Union Council, was founded February 21, 1950. It hosted the first NE-4A Conclave at Winnebago Scout Reservation in 1973, started a traditional Indian Dance Team in 1976, and used an Acorn and Oak Leaf as its totem.
Miquin Lodge #68 of the Order of the Arrow retained its name and number in 1980 after the merger.
Miquin #68 co-hosted the 1983 NOAC at Rutgers University with Narraticong Lodge #9, hosted the Area 2B Conferences in 1953, 1960, and 1968, the NE-4B Conclave in 1976, the NE-4A Conclave in 1983, and the NE-3B Conclaves in 1991 and 1993 at Camp Watchung and Winnebago Scout Reservation.
The standard issue Miquin flap was issued in two backgrounds over the years, blue and black. Other than minor art variations with different runs, it remained the same. A trading flap incorporating the design of Witauchsundin Lodge Flap with Miquin Lodge totem and colors was issued in 1981. A special “earned” flap was issued in 1991. In addition two anniversary flaps were issued for the 50th and 60th anniversary of Miquin Lodge. In 1990 and subsequent NOAC years, special NOAC flaps were issued.
Miquin added Indian singers to the Dance Team in 1985.
Miquin Lodge Brothers served on staff at Watchung Council’s two summer camps, Winnebago Scout Reservation and Sabattis Scout Reservation...
In 2000 Miquin Lodge #68 merged with Allemakewink Lodge #54 to form Woapalanne Lodge #43. At the final Miquin Lodge Banquet, a final flap was issued incorporating the elements of Witauchsundin Lodge #431 ghosted with the elements of the Miquin Lodge #68 flap commemorating 67 years of service. The final flap was also issued in a limited edition of 15 with a gold border as a lodge gift by the last Miquin Chief, Peter Meny to the then current officers and Founder Award recipients.
Special Thanks goes to Emil Meny, Miquin Lodge Advisor 1995-2000, for this history.
